Press Corps
Although this is considered to be a council
in RichMUN, the mandate is totally different when compared to any other
councils found in the UN. The Press Corps operates as the media which reports
each and every incident which occurs in the conference.
As the Chief Editor of Press Corps, I
assign each delegate to a news agency and I assign each delegate to go to a
council and do the reporting. The delegate has to change councils time to time
depending on the time and day. Further details will be given on the day of the
conference. Once the delegate has received enough details from that council,
the delegate must type the report on a word document using the Times New Roman
font size 12. It is compulsory to bring a laptop with a battery in order to do
the reporting. Images and doodles can be attatched according to the wish of the
delegate.
What the Editor Expects.
Generally, editors are looking at a few
factors (ranked in order of importance)
1) how close does the delegate's stance fit
the stance of the media organization they represent - eg Chinese government's
Xinhua News Agency is super supportive of China, New York Times tends to be
more liberal
2) Article content - this includes the
angle (which perspective are they focusing on), reporting of what went on,
quotes from interviews, background information - does it help the reader/editor
feel like they were there in the council
3) Linguistic flair – Language has the
ability to give a certain kick and emotion to the idea you present. Although
this is very very subjective, this is also considered important.
Feel free to contact me through Exco talks
and see you on the conference day.
